Boars Night Out started in 2006 as a group of single guys that were all recently divorced. We were known as the team that liked to cook and could definitely throw a Championship-level party!
In 2010, our focus shifted from the party to preparing world class bbq, and our hard work started taking shape. We topped off the year with a 5th place finish in the points for the Memphis Barbecue Network and gained valued respect from fellow competitors.
In 2011, we continued to refine our processes. We worked on our presentations by matching team members' talents with the various tasks necessary to compete at the highest level. We were awarded a few Grand Championships, and MBN recognized us as 3rd in points for the year. We also traveled to Ottawa, Canada and hosted the 4th of July Celebration for the US Ambassador to Canada. Needless to say, we were quite proud of this privilege and honor.
2012 was the year that our focus and hard work finally paid off. We were totally focused and our intent was to win against all competitors and to become the MBN Team of the Year. We proudly won 5 Grand Champion Awards, two of which were the coveted full sweeps (1st Whole Hog - 1st Shoulder - 1st Ribs). We accomplished our goal and were named the undisputed TEAM OF THE YEAR by the Memphis Barbecue Network! We also accomplished a feat never before done in the MBN. We won Team of the Year for Whole Hog, Shoulder AND for Ribs. This was a first in the history of MBN! This truly humbled our team members and made us more determined than ever to repeat in 2013!
In 2013 we had the privilege of exposure thanks to the good folks at "The Shed" and got to see ourselves a time or two on TV. At the end of the year, we came out on top and repeated our success from the previous year with 7 Grand Championships, numerous 1st Place finishes and MBN Team of the Year!
2014-2017 were great years for the team. We decided to branch out into some new venues. We competed in the World Food Championships in Orange Beach and the American Royal in Kansas City. We were the MBN Invitational Grand Champions in both 2015 & 2016. We pulled off a few more full sweeps at the Arlington BBQ Fall Festival and the Memphis Shrine Cook. We had 7 more Grands and over 50 top 5 finishes, including a perfect 180 at The American Royal - the World Series of Bbq! We competed in several SCA Steak Cook-off events and were fortunate enough to win the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Ft Worth, TX in 2017. We ventured into Best Memphis Burger Fest and had several top 10 finishes. We also won OBR's whole hog contest at the Pigapalooza fundraiser at the Kansas Speedway in 2017.
2018 was another incredible year for the team full of firsts. Our White Lightning seasoning officially became a world-wide best seller, and our new version, White Lightning with Double Garlic Butter, hit the market and really took off! We were honored to have been invited and able to teach an MBN sponsored Whole Hog Prep class at the Annual NBBQA Conference in Ft Worth, TX. We received 1st places at both Southaven Springfest (Hog) and Murphysboro's Praise the Lard (Ribs). We are undoubtedly most proud of our 2nd place Whole Hog finish at the Memphis in May World Championship! We again competed at the SCA World Championships in Ft Worth as well and placed a respectable top 15. A 3rd place steak in the Opening Round at the World Food Championship in Orange Beach earned us a spot in the Top 10 Round there! We gained many amazing new sponsors and friends that we now call family. We again had the privilege of volunteering on deployments with OBR and being a small part of something awe-inspiring and heart-stirring.
